A Super Weekender

While the rest of the known universe focused its attention on the historic showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, we spent the weekend listening to birdsong, watching squirrels frolic in the forest, and finding respite from the Trump Administration’s firehose of activity.

We set up on a warm Friday afternoon and soon found ourselves enjoying a walk around our camping loop. Loyd Park was only about one-third occupied, so there was little traffic and plenty of quiet. Chef Cliff prepared a perfect Date Night dinner we had under the outdoor pavilion, complete with a crackling campfire.

Next day, we spent the warm morning outdoors, reading The New York Times, watching “CBS Saturday Morning,” imbibing in breakfast cocktails, and brunching. After hiking around the camping loop, as temperatures soared to upper 80s, we were eager to take a long, luxurious nap in air-conditioned comfort.

An approaching cold front plunged temperatures by 30 degrees…bringing a chill to our evening campfire.

Chef Cliff managed to brace himself against the cold long enough to grill pork medallions and peppers, adding steamed broccolini and cob corn for a delightful dinner. A late-night toast with port wine around the dwindling campfire capped a beautiful day at Loyd Park.

A chilly Sunday found us inside Cloud 9 engaged in our normal routines as we forestalled the inevitable packing up and heading home.
