We’ve begun making preparations for our mid-May trip to Yosemite and we can hardly wait to hit the open road! We’ll be traveling along much of the old Route 66 and staying at many of the places Bobby Troup named in his 1946 classic tune. First stop, Amarillo (Palo Duro Canyon State Park), then on to Flagstaff (Red Lake Hostel and Texaco Station), Barstow (Calico Ghost Town) and, finally, our Yosemite base camp, the High Sierra RV Park. On the way back, we’ll stay near Kingman (Trade Winds RV Park) and back to Gallup (Red Rock Park). Reservations are made, mileage is calculated, budget is set. We’re also planning an afternoon excursion to the Grand Canyon, as well as anything else that strikes our fancy along “The Mother Road.” This will be our first major road trip since acquiring our Sportsmen Classic trailer this past July, so we’re hoping everything goes as smoothly as our monthly “weekender” trips.
