With a weather forecast of cool nights and low humidity, we eagerly headed to Cedar Hill State Park, a gleaming Cloud 9 in tow. Since returning from our Desert Southwest Adventure, we spent several days cleaning the rig inside and out, top-to-bottom, bumper-to-bumper. We’ve pulled the Airstream about 50,000 miles over nearly seven years, and, for the most part, it’s holding up pretty well.
We arrived in the late afternoon and quickly set up in advance of an ideal Date Night, complete with classic cocktails, an awesome sunset, a delicious dinner al fresco, and a late night walk under the stars.
Next day, Cliff went off to work while Jon took a deep dive into researching a Welsh family line. After Cliff finished his shift, he took our tow vehicle to the tire shop to get a tire repaired. Four new tires and $1,200 later, he stopped at the grocery store where he was able to get needed supplies and his Pfizer booster shot. All before noon. No wonder we were eager to climb into bed for a long, lazy afternoon nap!
Saturday evening brought another stunning sunset, with high wispy clouds providing a colorful canvas. After cocktails and a camp-style cookout, we ended the night with a crackling fire and another starlit walk.
On Sunday, we enjoyed our typical pursuits: watching “CBS Sunday Morning,” reading The New York Times, exploring Ancestry.com, brunching al fresco, napping, cocktailing, watching the sunset while televisiting with Jon’s mom. We ended the evening dining on grilled lamb with rice and Italian pole green beans while watching the second half of the Tony Awards broadcast (we failed to note that the first half streamed live on Paramount+, so CBS didn’t succeed in helping these viewers enjoy the entire show).
Monday found us easing our way back home, even as Jon took a 10 a.m. meeting to discuss trends in recruiting for open positions using social media. So much for a morning off! We’ll return to this same spot next weekend, when the weather is forecast to be equally pleasant. It’s finally fall, and we officially love this time of year!
